It Doesn't Have to "Match"
So I was watching “What Not To Wear” this weekend and began to realize that people have a hard time with fashion. I also realized that fashion is more than what we wear it is what we put in our homes. Rugs fall under this category. Area rugs become the fashion accessory for our rooms. The rugs we choose reflect our tastes and thoughts about our homes. Well as I watched people stumble all over how to dress them fashionably, it came to me that people have the same issues with how they decorate their homes. What colors to use, how to use pattern, how to mix and match and how to make it all look like a blind person didn’t make the decisions. I heard something very interesting while I was watching my marathon session of this show… “It doesn’t have to match, it has to go.” While this makes so much sense to me, I was hoping to help all of you rug shoppers understand what that simple phrase means.
It’s very simple, rugs don’t have to match your décor perfectly, they need to go. Meaning things need to blend. Blues don’t have to match blues, they need to blend and go. Patterns in your rug don’t have to match your draperies; they do need to “go with” the patterns. Think, nature, greens in trees don’t all match, but when you look at the whole, they go together. So don’t fret when you’re decorating with rugs, give yourself a break, let go, and look at the total picture. Make sure things blend rather than match and your life will be much easier.
So, have at it, it’s not rocket science, take a rug, make a room, enjoy and keep shopping.
