Q & A with Danielle

Recently I sat down with Danielle Dembinski, who oversees the customer care at Rugs To My Door. Here is what was said:

Q: How long have you been with Rugs To My Door?
A: I started working here three years ago.

Q: What do you do at Rugs To My Door?
A: I work in customer care.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job?
A: I really like getting emails from people saying that they got their rug and really love it. We even have customers that send us pictures of their house. One customer even sent us before and after pictures-the first without rugs and the second with the rugs. That was really neat.

Q: Where is Rugs To My Door located?
A: Our offices are in downtown Detroit, which is really experiencing a rebirth in recent years. It all started with the SuperBowl that was here a few years ago, but the development and redevelopment just keeps on coming. A long time abandoned hotel named the "Book Cadillac" has been fully restored and is ready to open in the next few weeks. The city is a really fun place to work. We also have a warehouse in the New Center area of the city. It is where we ship our area rug pads and rug cleaner from. The majority of our merchandise though ships directly from the manufacturers which are located mainly outside Atlanta, GA.

Q: What is your favorite type of area rug?
A: Well by style, I would definitely say my favorite rugs are contemporary. I just think that they really make a wow statement in a room.

Q: Interesting, so what is your favorite rug fiber?
A: Well, personally I like wool the best. The thing about a wool rug is that it will shed for the first few months but once that stops it will look new for a really long time. If you have a very busy household or do not want to deal with the fuzzing of a wool rug then my second favorite fiber is nylon. It tends to hold up fairly well and looks a lot like wool rugs do.

Q: What manufacturer do you like working with the best?
A: That is an easy one. For me it is definitely Oriental Weavers. They are also known as Sphinx. They ship their rugs out really fast and have a great assortment of patterns to choose from. Rugs that they make are an incredible quality and because they are such a big company their prices are really reasonable.

Great. Well thank you for your time. Rugs are an interesting product, and it seems like you have learned a lot about them since you joined Rugs To My Door. I know you are really appreciated around here, so I guess I should say keep up the great work!

Rugs of a different color

I recently went on a camping trip. Since joining Rugs To My Door, I have found myself increasingly attached to technological gadgets which really does make the work life more efficient, but over time it also can raddle my nerves a bit. So I decided to go to a place where a cell signal cannot be found and just relax with mother nature.

Upon returning back home, I was amazed at how vivid my home looked to me. I suppose staying in the woods for a week where things are essentially "earth tones" caused my eyes to see my home in a new light. So what is my point? Basically, I want to encourage you to think outside your comfort zone a bit. Consider what your home might look like with some new brighter colors on the walls and how a brightly colored new area rug might make the home feel fresh and new.

A really great thing to do is to start with the rugs as the focal point if at all possible then build the room around it. Usually however things occur exactly opposite of this. I am guilty of this myself and actually chose the rug for my kitchen three years after I moved into my house. I settled on a bamboo rug that goes with the cabinets and the floors really well. Since it is bamboo, I can clean it up pretty easily just by using a damp rag if I make a spill-which I do nearly all the time :(

For the living room there is a brightly colored rug that really makes the room come to life. The rug is made of wool and has served me well for nearly six years. It still looks brand new despite the traffic that goes across it and the abuse it takes thanks to my occasional clumsiness.

My point in all this is to just encourage you to go with your gut when it comes to color. Don't settle for beige, go for the gusto. After getting home from my camping trip...it was great to be re-connected to all my electronic gadgetry and really exciting to see how bright and fun a boldly colored rug made my living room look. I for one am glad I thought outside my comfort zone when I chose it.

Until next time, thanks for reading. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I am happy to help.
Kindly,
Wes.
