I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues
Do you need some calm back in your life? I know I could, so I’ve been investigating inexpensive ways (rather than the weekly massage and jetting off to Tahiti) to bring some tranquility back into my life. One of the easiest ways I have found to do this is to begin to infuse the color blue into my surroundings. Blue is a color that is calming – and one of the newest shades to bring that calm into your home is a frosty light blue. Whether it is a grey based or a blue-green these shades of blue are the way to bring a safe haven into your home.
One of the things to remember when working with these icy (yet calming) blues is to pair it with warmer colors to keep your room from looking like you are in an ice palace. Good places to look for accents to a soothing blue are with soft creams, warm browns (think of the wonderful spa color palette) reds, yellows… well you get the picture – pair your blue with something on the opposite side of the color wheel.
If painting seems too much how about starting off with an area rug that brings the blues and calm into your room. I’ve pulled some rugs from our various collections to give you ideas on the different styles and different ways you can use these rugs to put the blues into your rooms.
Let’s start with the rug from the Sandra Lee collection from Feizy. It is a brilliant ice blue color, with tone on tone traditional motifs – but done in such a way that it will easily work in rooms from modern to traditional. This rug is hand-tufted in India from faux silk giving it a sheen that will sparkle.
Here is a prime example of taking an icy blue and pairing it with a warm brown to bring out the best in both colors. This area rug from the Andy Warhol collection from Sphinx is hand-tufted out of wool and comes in four easy to use sizes.
