Polypropylene means what exactly?

Who cares if the fiber on the label says rubberbands or polypropylene or wool or what not--right? What you want is a rug that repels stains and lasts a long time and feels great on the toes.

So why in the world did the folks that invented an incredible fiber decide to name it something so odd as polypropylene? Well who knows, really...but what I can say is that this is one amazing fiber.

I have a rug made of polypropylene in my foyer and it was very dirty from the Detroit winter. It had stains on it and a lot of dirt and grime rubbed in. I was going to roll it up to toss it in the trash-until I realized that it is made of polypropylene.

So I took out my carpet cleaning machine and used it on the rug (after vacuuming it, of course). Amazingly, the spots and stains all came out. This rug is one cool thing! So I called the manufacturer of it (since we work with them) and asked them about the fiber.

Much to my surprise, this fiber can withstand all sorts of things being on it. Actually, the only thing that will actually stain it (THE ONLY THING) is oil. Any sort of oil is bad news for the fiber. Other than that, it is able to take a whole lot of spills in stride.

So as you look for area rugs, be sure to consider the fiber they are made of. Consider polypropylene...they really do make great rugs.
Until next time thanks for reading!
Wes.
