Good deal, limited time

Rugs To My Door is having a deal that simply cannot be beat. When you place an order of any value, they will include Free Shipping, give you a 30 Day In Home Trial, and include a Free rug pad for all of the area rugs you order.

Area rugs can really enhance a home's interior. Whether you are considering rugs for the family room, a great room, or maybe a cold basement that could use a little warmth on the floor-area rugs are a great way to spruce up a space and add a sense of interior design fashion without having to spend a whole lot.

What's even better is that if the owner of the rugs chooses to move, the rugs can be rolled up and brought with them unlike installed goods such as carpeting or laminate floors.

So be sure to consider some rugs. But especially now as this big deal on area rugs is going on. It simply cannot be beat. The rug pads ship out before you get your rugs so you can set out the pad and not have to worry about waiting to get the pad after your rug has already arrived.

So what is so great about rug pads? Well, the really important part is that it helps reduce the likelihood of bunching. Bunching occurs when furniture is placed on a rug. The furniture anchors the rugs in place, but where there is no furniture the rugs may bunch and shift. As a result they will over time become deformed and potentially damaged indefinitely.

So be sure to use rug pad. Especially in this instance when the folks at rugs to my door are literally giving them away.

Until next time, thank you for reading, and enjoy your free rug pad.

My Favorite Pair of Jeans

I’ve been in Las Vegas all week at the World Market looking at and for new products to bring to Rugs to My Door. I’m looking for trends in color, design, style, texture all to bring you the best and the brightest items for your home. One of the color trends I’ve seen a lot of this week is denim blue. It is a great color that you will be seeing much more of this year in the area rugs that we offer. I have seen all sorts of variations from the dark indigo of a brand new pair of 501’s to the stonewashed light blue that a well worn comfortable pair of jeans acquires. With all these great tones of blue, you will be able to find rugs ranging from contemporary to traditional and everything in between.

The best part of working with denim blue is the fact that most people are vary comfortable pairing things with it. This makes decorating VERY easy. Look at the colors and the textures you put with your favorite pair of jeans and you instantly know what works with this versatile color in your home.

Take a look at this Tracy Porter area rug from Feizy. It’s a rug that takes a wonderful denim blue background and mixes it with ivories and browns. The design is such that it can easily be used from traditional to transitional to even a more modern setting. Feizy is one of several new rug lines we are bringing you; I know you’ll find a lot of great looks and exquisite rugs here.

Another new line of rugs with some great styles and colors including the fun denim blues is from Rizzy. With its great use of pattern and the subtle coloring the rug you see here from the Country Collection from Rizzy will be easy to fit into your decorating plans.

Finally, the last thing I want to say about blue and especially denim blue is that it is almost a neutral (think of how you use it in your wardrobe) using it with white gives you one look and feel, while a deep chocolate brown is a totally different look. Use contrasting colors like red or pink and you turn the dial up to 11 with the intensity. If you want a simple addition to your home look for rugs that come in this wonderful shade of blue and perk up your rooms today with a rug from Rugs to My Door.

Rugs of Las Vegas, NV

What do Las Vegas, NV and the industry of rugs have in common? Well for this week at least, a whole lot. That is because the area rug industry hosts over 50,000 visitors (e-tailers such as www.RugsToMyDoor.com and retailers such as Macy's) at the incredible new Las Vegas World Market Center. It is at this market that we get to see the very latest that the area rug industry has to offer and review the sort of products we have on our site, and what rugs we should add in the very near future.

In years past this sort of market was held in a small town in the Triad area of North Carolina. High Point market was for decades the go to place for anything to do with home interiors. But in more recent years the construction of the massive World Market Center in Las Vegas, NV has challenged that. Founders Jack Kashani and Shawn Samson are to complete an astounding 12 million square feet of showroom space by 2015. At that point the World Market Center will be far and away the largest gathering place for the purchase and review of wholesale home interior goods.

The folks in the relatively sleepy town of High Point, NC are not taking this massive new project and the daunting competition it brings lightly. They have increased their attention to detail and added amenities that did not previously exist in an effort to satisfy customers that used to have only one viable market to attend-the rugs market of High Point.

Certainly time will tell which of these two markets win out, however there is little doubt that one of them will have to eventually diminish in both scope and importance. The reason is that with rents ranging from $18-$20 per square foot for permanent showroom space that is used for two weeks out of a 52 week period, the cost to manufacturers of area rugs is absolutely staggering, and many vendors in these challenging times simply must choose one or the other.

For industry leader Sphinx by Oriental Weavers, the choice was to open a state of the art facility in Las Vegas, NV two year ago while their lease in High Point, NC expired. Recently the area rug giant decided not to renew it's lease in High Point. Many area rug insiders interpret this as a nod to the Las Vegas World Market.

Only time will tell if the tradition of High Point market is able to keep at bay the truly staggering investment that is being poured into the Las Vegas World Market Center. While there is little doubt that a national recession is underway now, there is no sign of it at the World Market Center. Construction continues on new buildings and those that are complete are packed with area rug manufacturers and other category suppliers such as lighting and home accents. One thing is certain, the World Market Center is here to stay. The question then is, can High Point have a place at the table as well?

You know you are popular when...

The other day I was browsing a competitor's site and noticed they had stolen our search function. Then a few weeks later, I saw another prankster had taken our "Hottest Trends" idea. Recently we have even had competitors trying to piggy back on our hugely popular blog.

I was becoming very upset about all this until a friend pointed out that "imitation is the greatest form of flattery". While that is true, oh how I do wish that some of these folks would think up some things on their own...it would make things more interesting in the industry.

So why does http://www.rugstomydoor.com such a following? That one is easy! We have the most fashion forward rugs in the business, we run easy to follow and exciting promotions, and we work constantly to make sure we have the most modern and up to date site in the business.

In fact, area rugs offered at Rugs To My Door is just the half of it. We also do a booming business in area rug pads and area rug cleaner. We are a full service business that is very proud of what we do. So to all those wacky competitors that try to steal our ideas--here is a hint: we have all sorts of new and exciting things to launch in the coming year-if you always follow the dog in front of you the view never changes-and sometimes it gets pretty dog gone smelly.

Until next time, thank you for reading and I genuinely appreciate your business. Now if you are a competitor-how about you give me a call before you steal my content or try to piggyback on my successful blog-it really is the least you can do!
Yours Truly,
Wes Jenkins

Orange You Glad to See Me?

I have recently fallen in love with the color orange. Well anybody that knows me knows that I have no issues with color to begin with. I love color. I love variety. I love exploring the color wheel and finding new ways to play with the colors that I find there. My first rule with color is that if it works in nature it is going to work in my home. The second is if start with paint, I can always re-paint if I make a horrible mistake (which not surprisingly I have actually done before) Finally, there are no rules – color is supposed to be fun. So, with that in mind, I’ve recently decided to play with orange. I have a large poster in my house that has a lot of orange in it and that was my jumping off point. (you always need some type of inspiration and it can come from just about anything, anywhere) To really make the orange in the poster pop I painted the wall that it is on gray. Then I painted three other walls gray – really looked cool but I started noticing I was losing the punch of the orange – now here is where it gets fun. I painted an accent wall very bright orange – looks amazing! I added a rug to the floor (of course) that pulls the orange down off the walls. Then I started playing with pillows, candles, throws – you get the drift.

I spent quite a bit of time searching through the Rugs to My Door assortment looking for rugs that will incorporate the orange but leave me options for when I decide to change. Here are some of the area rugs that I found and will be adding to the hardwood floors of my apartment.

Two rugs from Nina Upson work just perfectly – the first is vibrant with organges, reds, tangerines, all sorts of great colors and my black leather chairs just bounce off this rug. The other rug brings the contrast of cool colors in with it and gives me a whole new palette colors to play with.

Finally, there’s this Andy Warhol rug from Oriental Weavers / Sphinx that I have coming. It pulls the orange very nicely, but gives me all sorts of other colors to play with in my accessories and ideas for future wall colors.

As you can see I am not afraid of color – it brightens my mood, my home and keeps things lively. Try it you might find that color in your home can do the same thing.

Area rug lingo

Believe it or not, there are entire conventions dedicated to area rugs. Recently I found myself at the Atlanta's Area rug market. There was a cocktail party held after all the rug vendors had shared their products for the week. We all stood around sipping our drinks and talking about area rugs and how much the rug business had changed over the years. At one point we were using a bunch of abbreviations and acronyms.

One of the new staff members at Rugs To My Door looked over at me with a dazed look in his eye. I thought he was beginning to get sleepy from the long work week so I said my good byes and we exited the event.

As we made our way from the area rug show to the hotel, he asked me what we were talking about-and even claimed that it was like a different language. I had no idea what he was talking about-and wondered if I made a bad hire with this younger man who had earlier had such promise.

Then he started asking me what Van DeWiele, cross woven, polypropylene, olefin, power loomed, and other such words meant. It was at this point that I realized he had been failed by me. The area rug industry is so rich with information that sometimes it gets to be too technical and possibly overwhelming to the onlooker.

So how do we overcome this? I have put together a brief glossary of terms related to rugs below. That way when you go through the site you will feel more comfortable with what you are looking at. If there is a word that you are not familiar with that I have omitted-just shoot us an email or give me a call.

A few commonly used terms in area rugs:

1)Machine Woven A machine woven rug is very similar to a power woven rug and a cross woven rug. Essentially a machine is used to weave the face fiber together with a primary backing material. Machine woven rugs can be made of all sorts of materials. Benefits of machine woven rugs include their ability to be cleaned without fear of delimitation (secondary backing adhesive comes unbound and rug structure fails), their bind rating (ability for the rug to keep it's yarns in place with heavy traffic or vacuuming), and the possibility for them to be mass produced bringing the cost per unit down significantly.

2)Polypropylene Polypropylene is a man made fiber that is highly versatile. Polypropylene is also used to produce things such as soda bottles. Another name for polypropylene is olefin. For the sake of clarity the team at rugs to my door tries their best to name everything polypropylene even though the word olefin may be used interchangeably. Rugs made of polypropylene are highly resistant to stains with their arch nemesis being oils. Other than an oil based spill, polypropylene is an impermeable yarn that can take wine and grapes and all sorts of other things being spilled and dumped on it without any impact. In fact polypropylene rugs are so stain resistant that you can actually use a mixture of bleach and water if a stain will not come out with the use of a premium rug cleaning product such as Rug Renew.

3)Rug Pads Often we are asked why do we need rug pads? There are a few reasons you should always use a pad beneath your rug. The main reason in my opinion is that the rug can bunch if you choose not to use a rug pad. Bunching can occur when area rugs are placed with furniture on top of them without a rug pad. The furniture keeps the rugs in place where the furniture is, but where there is not any furniture the rugs begin to shift and bunch. The result over time can be a misshapen rug that is severely damaged and will either require professional care to restore it or in many cases out right replacement. Rugs that have rug pad are also more likely to stay in place reducing the likelihood that a fall will occur. Of course, we always encourage caution when making one's way from a given surface of the floor to another as steady footing is essential regardless of whether rug pad is present or not.

If you have any questions that were not answered in this brief discussion about rug lingo just let us know. Thanks again for reading, and leave a comment any time!

Kind Regards.

Better get to living

I was recently turned onto a song by Dolly Parton. Now for those of you who regularly read this blog, you must think I have flipped my lid to mention her in the middle of a blog full of ideas on rugs and how to design with them and use rugs to enhance to home interior.

So why am I mentioning Dolly? That is an easy one-because her song "Better get to livin" basically discusses how far too often we wallow in our own sadness and short sightedness. I was recently on vacation and on the way home I grabbed a USA Today and a Wall Street Journal. Good grief I thought, things are getting to be really dicy out there right now. Between the jobs problem, the war, the budget deficit...well-you get the picture.

So what can be done? To put it quite simply, get to livin'. Sure things may be a bit more challenging now than they were a few years ago-I know they are for me. Maybe life does not present as many exciting options as it did at one time-but you can still enjoy your family and dear friends, still spend time at home watching your favorite shows...take a few moments to watch the video on YouTube of Dolly Parton's song-and leave a comment with me if you like. Thanks for reading...with the next blog we will most assuredly return to the subject of area rugs! :)
