What is the best rug for a patio?

We have been getting a lot of calls lately from customers asking what the best sort of rug is for their patio or screened porch. Until recently that was a challenging question to ask. More recently however, area rug manufacturers have started making a lot of different indoor-outdoor patterns.

Some of them are highly stylized and can be used in high style living rooms, or in fashionable patios. What once was a niche segment has ballooned into a large part of the area rug business because indoor-outdoor rugs are highly stain resistant, expand the size of your living space, and generally dress up the home.

So where do you find this nifty segment of area rugs? That is an easy question to answer-simply look at this set of products. Along the way if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
Until next time, good browsing!

Polypropylene means what exactly?

Who cares if the fiber on the label says rubberbands or polypropylene or wool or what not--right? What you want is a rug that repels stains and lasts a long time and feels great on the toes.

So why in the world did the folks that invented an incredible fiber decide to name it something so odd as polypropylene? Well who knows, really...but what I can say is that this is one amazing fiber.

I have a rug made of polypropylene in my foyer and it was very dirty from the Detroit winter. It had stains on it and a lot of dirt and grime rubbed in. I was going to roll it up to toss it in the trash-until I realized that it is made of polypropylene.

So I took out my carpet cleaning machine and used it on the rug (after vacuuming it, of course). Amazingly, the spots and stains all came out. This rug is one cool thing! So I called the manufacturer of it (since we work with them) and asked them about the fiber.

Much to my surprise, this fiber can withstand all sorts of things being on it. Actually, the only thing that will actually stain it (THE ONLY THING) is oil. Any sort of oil is bad news for the fiber. Other than that, it is able to take a whole lot of spills in stride.

So as you look for area rugs, be sure to consider the fiber they are made of. Consider polypropylene...they really do make great rugs.
Until next time thanks for reading!

Q: I have small children and a dog. What sort of rug should I order that is easy to care for and won't stain?
Amy J. Duluth, GA

A: Great question. There are so many different types of area rugs to consider that sometimes it can seem overwhelming. Fortunately, we have an entire series of area rugs already sorted out for you to choose from. The great thing is that all these rugs come with a 10 year
Family Friendly guarantee. If the rug stains in the first 10 years of use, the manufacturer will repair or replace the item. Now I was skeptical of this offer myself at first, so I bought a Family Friendly area rug that was primarily white and I put it in our warehouse. The traffic going back and forth across it was brutal. The rug became a dingy dark color after six months of use. I then used a household carpet cleaning machine on it-following the instructions for cleaning that Bissell provided.

Nearly all the stains came out...and a few that did not-well I called the manufacturer and found out that you can use a combination of 1/3 bleach to 2/3 water and rub gently....that did the trick-the stain came out--but the color in the rug remained unchanged-even the bright red colors of the rug stayed red-with BLEACH being used. Be sure to use this stain treating option only on area rugs in the "Family Friendly" section of our site, and those that are made of polypropylene.

Until next time, thanks for reading, and keep the questions coming!

Good Deal

When the going gets tough, we realize that we have to bring out the big guns to sell some stuff and bring down our inventory. That is where the Spring 4 way giveaway comes into play. Going on for 4 days only, our 4 Way Giveaway includes the following:

Free Rug Pad
Free Rug Cleaning Kit
Free Shipping
Free 30 Day In Home Trial

But hurry, a deal like this only comes along each Spring.

While I am mentioning interesting things and good deals-consider our Family Friendly Rugs! They come with a 10 year warranty against staining. I have had one in my foyer for years now and have never had to take Oriental Weavers up on their warranty. Why? Because anything I spill on it (as a Detroiter--trust me winters are pretty rough on it) come out easily.

So if you are considering a new area rug--check out our Family Friendly assortment. They are a great deal now with our Spring 4 Way, plus they last a really long time.

Until next time thanks for reading, and have a great weekend.
