by San Diego Air & Space Museum Archives

A lot of people often have carpets in their houses. There are actually a lot of benefits that carpets can provide. It can help heighten the beauty of the house especially if it is well maintained. It can also accumulate the dust roaming around your house. Also, carpets have different characteristics. If the season is hot, the carpet is hot as well and when the climate is cold, so is the carpet. The benefits that can be provided by carpets are only true when it is maintained regularly. So how can you clean your carpets?

Some people think that cleaning a carpet is just as easy as cleaning your floor. They think that using vacuum is already enough to clean a carpet. When you are cleaning a carpet, the most important thing that you need to keep in mind is to remove the dusts hidden on the carpet. Like what is said earlier, carpets can take the dust from the air but when it is already crowded with dust, it will return the dust in the air. This dust can cause allergies and asthma to the people inside your house. Can you clean your carpet all by yourself?

          ]]>

Basically, you can clean your carpets if you wanted to but make sure that you lend a lot of time in cleaning your carpets. Always remember that it is not as easy as cleaning a regular floor. It will take a lot of time especially when your house is fully carpeted.

So you can start the cleaning by removing the dust from the carpet. There is a chemical used to help the dust appear on the carpets so you can easily clean it. Simply put chemicals on the carpet so that the dust will appear on the surface. Once the dust is already on the carpet, the next step will be to remove the dust. You need to vacuum your whole carpet for about 1 to 2 times to make sure that all the dust and dirt are already removed. This task will take around 3 to 4 hours depending on how large is your carpeted floor.

After you vacuum your carpet, the last thing is to sanitize it. Always remember that you need to make sure that your carpet is free from dust before you sanitize it. The dust and dirt present on the carpet may reappear if you did not clean it properly before you put the sanitizing chemical. It is very important that you sanitize your carpet since the germs and fungi present in it will not be removed by the vacuum.

This is probably a daunting task especially if you are the only one who will perform the cleaning and maintaining a carpet regularly is not easy. On these situations, hiring a professional cleaning company like Carpet Cleaning Perth is a good idea. Carpet cleaners Perth is one of the best carpet cleaners that you can consider. They can clean your carpet faster and more efficiently since they know how to clean it properly.

INTRODUCTION TO LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminate flooring is a great alternative to hardwood when you want the warmth and beauty of wood flooring without the installation and maintenance hassles. This attractive flooring solution is available in a wide range of prices, colours and grains. It’s also more scratch and dent resistant than hardwood flooring, which makes it the perfect choice for homes with active children or pets. Laminate flooring is the one of the most versatile, durable and well-constructed types of flooring on the market today.

HOW TO CHOOSE LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminates warranty range from 10 years to lifetime. Entry level laminates come with a 10 to 15 years warranty but they are designed for light traffic areas. Used in a high traffic area, they will begin to show wear and tear usually within 3 to 5 years. Remember that choosing the right laminate flooring is not as easy as it seems, but by doing that, you will save money in the long run. Just think of things like the amount of time you are planning on staying in that house or the amount of traffic, because there is no point in buying really expensive laminate flooring with extended warranty if you know that you are moving sometime in the near future. Also consider buying laminates with Paraffin wax impregnated joints, as this wax acts as a water repellent and prevents water from penetrating down to the core.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Laminate Flooring is made up of six layers, and comes in varying sizes of either planks or squares with a tongue and groove interlocking system. The surface layer of laminate is the melamine wearlayer, which is a tough clear melamine layer with aluminum oxide particles. When fused together with heat and direct to the core the wearlayer becomes an incredibly hard, durable finish. The resin-filled wearlayer is so dense it becomes extremely difficult to stain, scratch, or burn. The second layer is the Print Layer, which is the decorative layer giving the flooring its appearance of real hardwood or tile. The third layer is a clear thin plastic sheet that floats freely above the substrate before the laminate floor is floated. Melamine is a plastic-type resin used throughout the construction process to add durability and stability to the laminated planks. The thickest layer is the core, consists usually of high-density fiber board (HDF), particle board to add resistance and form the tongue and groove locking system. Melamine plastic resins are used to improve moisture resistance of the core by some manufacturers. A thing you should consider when buying laminate flooring for bathrooms or kitchens is it’s core. A thicker core is more stable, less vulnerable and sounds more like the real hardwood floor when walked on. Quality laminate cores are treated with water repellent chemicals. The melamine plastic backing is used to add more structural stability and moisture protection to the planks.

          ]]>

INSTALLATION

As glueless locking mechanisms has been introduced to the market, laminate flooring has become the perfect choice for households because it has a quicker installation, it’s easier to repair and it can be installed by people without experience or specialized tools. This will save you a considerable amount of money. Installing laminate floors eliminates the need to nail or glue your floor in place. It is also a very attractive, low cost and long lasting flooring option. With an easy to clean surface, impact and dent resistance, laminate flooring can be installed over many different types of subfloors and on all grade levels, making it a versatile flooring choice. Installing laminate floors can be used in any room in the house and in most commercial areas as long as they are flat and in solid condition. Installing laminate floors can be done over concrete, wood, ceramic tile and even your existing linoleum floor. Even though laminate floors can be installed in any room in the house, they should not be installed in garages or on outside porches. The biggest reason for this is moisture. Moisture and laminate floors do not mix. On a scale from one to ten, installing laminate flooring requires a skill level of about a four. The most challenging part of the installation process will be clearing your schedule for a couple of hours. The easy to follow instructions and simplified interlocking clicking system mean that most do-it-yourselfers will be able to install an entire floor in one afternoon. A laminated floor that is properly installed, protected and maintained will go a long way to help your laminated floor last as long as your home.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminate Flooring is available in one of 2 types, planks and tiles. Flooring planks can be interlocking or tongue and groove where flooring tiles have tongue and groove edges. There are many different manufactures of laminate flooring and as the laminate flooring producers continue to expand colors, styles and increase quality, the growth of laminate flooring industry will continue.

REASONS TO CHOOSE LAMINATE:

A laminated floor is tough and durable.

A laminated floor is chemical resistant and harsh household chemicals and cleaning agents will not harm your laminate flooring surface.

A laminated floor can resist dropped cigarettes for a time without burning the floor.

A laminated floor will keep its color or design for years. The surface will not fade even when exposed to direct sunlight.

A laminated floor is hypoallergenic, it doesn’t contain any hazardous PCB’s, dioxins, plasticizers or chlorines. It repels dust, dustmites and other allergy causing particles.

A laminated floor is stain resistant and can be easily cleaned. Cleaning up a spill on a laminated floor is as simple as wiping up the mess. Also, scuff marks can be easily cleaned off a laminated floor.

Installing a laminated floor is quick and easy. It can be floated over your existing K-3/lino, wood, concrete, tile or even low grade commercial carpet saving value time and expense. There is no need to wait, you can walk on your floor immediately after installation is complete.

A laminated floor comes in many different designs and colors.

A laminated floor is easy to care for.

by Nationaal Archief

Before selecting the best carpet cleaners, you should know what type of carpet you are dealing with. Antique carpets are often in fragile states, which is why you should never use very high temperatures when cleaning them. The dyes and patterns on the carpets fade fast if extremely hot water is applied to them. Even modern carpets should be washed carefully. Carpets glued to the floor come apart when hot water dissolves the glue. This is the primary reason you should pay special attention to the heat tolerance of upholstery and carpets before purchasing these machines. Before using carpet steam cleaners on carpets, spot test to see if they can withstand high temperatures. If you are not sure, it is always a smart idea to stay on the lower side of the temperature scale and use water that is not too hot for cleaning the carpets.

Temperature

The best carpet cleaners are not always the ones with heating options. While heated water is indispensable to certain applications, lightly soiled carpets can be easily cleaned with a cold water machine. The best carpet cleaning systems are those that offer powerful yet gentle cleaning, keeping the carpet safe while eliminating dirt, dust, odors, pet stains, ink, food stains, and other unwanted matter. If cold water is not enough for cleaning, you can add a biodegradable detergent to the water for better results.

          ]]>

Hot water carpet cleaners have temperatures as high as 210°F. These machines can heat water, while some cold water carpet cleaners can accept hot water but will not heat it.

Hot water removes stains and odors as the heat and steam embed deep into the fabric and remove all debris and dirt from deep within. Most odors are caused by decaying organic matter, and carpets particularly in heavy traffic areas need frequent cleaning.

Low Moisture

Low moisture carpet cleaning machines are a necessity for all commercial cleaning applications. Because of restrictions on water use and difficulty associated with waste water disposal, industrial carpet cleaners are designed to use as little water as possible. These carpet cleaning machines may be used on client locations as well because of their water efficiency.

The best carpet cleaner should use low moisture technology because less water use serves another function. Carpets washed in minimal water dry faster. This reduces the possibility of mold growth. Mold on moist carpets can become a big problem, causing allergies and odors. By using water-efficient carpet cleaning machines, this problem is resolved.

Continuous Use

If you are purchasing carpet steam cleaners, you need to remember that these industrial carpet cleaners should be able to run nonstop in order to clean the maximum number of carpets. The best carpet cleaner machines have large solution and recovery tanks that allow longer periods of uninterrupted use. Another useful feature is auto fill and auto dump, which mechanizes the process of filling and emptying the tanks. This feature saves time and labor and promotes higher productivity.

The best carpet cleaners offer a combination of powerful cleaning, productivity, and value for money.

Daimer Industries is a leading supplier of carpet shampooer.
Carpet shampooers, also known as carpet steam cleaning machines, are used for a variety of cleaning applications in office buildings. Commercial cleaning requires specialized cleaning machines that can handle tough cleaning tasks associated with office and commercial spaces. Machines are available that can perform spot cleaning of carpets, upholstery, rugs, curtains and chairs. Such models are ideal for handling the variety of office cleaning tasks.

Functionality of Office Carpet Shampoo Machines
Carpet shampooers are available from leading suppliers for commercial and business applications, designed to handle tough cleaning tasks. They use the latest cleaning technologies available to make the process convenient and improve the efficiency levels. Such carpet cleaning equipment can clean carpets and office upholstery by injecting a mixture of water and cleaning solution into the material to be cleaned. For maximum effectiveness, it is always recommended to pre-spray the carpet or upholstery prior to using a carpet cleaning machine, as this dwell time will go a long way in rendering tough deposits easy-to-remove.

The wand is a significant consideration. Top suppliers offer carpet cleaning systems that can be paired with a larger carpet wand or a smaller 4-inch upholstery wand, specially designed for the tight spaces characteristic of upholstery. It is important to select any and all accessories that you need to complete your cleaning applications.

          ]]>

Advanced Features of Top Carpet Shampooers
High temperature output of advanced carpet shampooers ensures that the stubborn dirt and stains break up more easily and quickly than with cold water cleaners. Also, they disintegrate the bond between the carpet surface and the dirt making it easy to dislodge the stains, grime and muck completely. However, the use of high temperatures is not a requirement of carpet cleaning, it merely eases the process. Non-heated machines can be aided by the use of eco-friendly cleaners, and are preferred when tackling heat sensitive carpets.

Most of the advanced office cleaning machines uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure that the carpets and upholstery are dry and ready to use in the fastest possible time. Conventional carpet cleaning machines leave the carpets and rugs soggy and wet. In such conditions, they are susceptible to bacterial and mold formation. This can result in a foul smell emanating from them- hardly a desirable situation for an office or commercial premise. That is why the advanced, low-flow carpet steam cleaner is recommended for cleaning office and commercial buildings. With such low flow technologies, carpets can be cleaned and left to dry in only 2 hours!

Carpet cleaning machines from established manufacturers come with temperature adjustment devices. This allows the carpet extractors to be used on delicate surfaces by setting the output heat temperature to the desired levels for optimum results. More powerful cleaning for high traffic areas of the office building can be achieved by selecting more powerful systems, which can reach a maximum pressure level of 500 psi.

Other advanced features of the modern industrial carpet extractors include the auto fill and auto dump capability that allow the operators to use the machine for longer duration without having to refill or discharge the residual dirt frequently. They are perfect for cleaning office buildings, restaurants, hospitals, schools and commercial setups, like shops.

Advanced carpet shampooers deliver professional cleaning results without demanding too much of physical effort. A carpet steam cleaner will do a thorough cleaning of the office premises in a quick fashion. Look to reputable online suppliers today to start tackling your office cleaning applications.

by Cornell University Library

What is Solid Wood Flooring?

Solid wood is exactly as it sounds, one piece of wood from top to bottom.

What is the difference between Laminate and Real Wood Floors?

Real Wood floors will age and mature with your property, this means that they will mark and dent more easily than a laminate would but this is part of the character of real wood floors and should not be viewed as a fault of the product. The shade of the wood surface will change with exposure to sunlight. Dependant on the species, it will either lighten or darken with age. The shade variation will only go on to a certain level and then cease. Any unexposed surface areas will eventually catch up with the colour differences once exposed.

Depending on the type of Real Wood floor (solid v’s engineered) it can sanded and re lacquered a number of times to prolong the life of the floor.

What is the difference between Solid Wood Flooring and Engineered Wood Flooring?

Each type of flooring has its specific use and choosing one over the other is dictated by your lifestyle and needs. Solid wood should be in a moisture-controlled environment. Solid wood (strip or plank effect) should be nailed down only and requires a wood sub floor. Solid wood can be glued to a variety of sub floor materials.

Engineered wood flooring consists of a multi-plied, cross-stacked backing with a real wood veneer (top layer of a selected species). Engineered wood flooring can be used on grade, above and below grade.

Engineered wood flooring is more dimensionally stable so it can be installed in areas where solid wood is not compatible due to moisture. Engineered wood (strip or plank effect) can be glued down over various sub floor. Some engineered woods (strip and plank ) can be nailed down which require a wood sub floor. Engineered woods can also be layed as a floating floor where the tongue and groove are glued together, but the floor is not anchored to the sub floor.

What is a “Floating Floor”?

Floating flooring is a flooring system laid down over a layer of underlay. So while the individual planks are glued together, the individual planks are not nailed or glued into the permanent floor. Instead, the planks form a system that “floats” over the layer of underlay. The underlay can be laid down over existing floors.

What is the required distance between the walls and the flooring boards?

When gluing a Real Wood to the subfloor an expansion gap of 15mm towards the walls is sufficient. With floating-floor installations for every metre of installation width the flooring requires a distance to the wall of at least 5mm, lengthwise an expansion gap of 15mm is sufficient.

Can I install the flooring using one pack after the other?

No, for a natural, harmonious looking installation is recommended to work with approximately 5 open packs of flooring and sort/choose the boards individually by colour.

          ]]>

How much wastage do I allow for?

Despite our strict sorting criteria and thorough quality control there may be certain material-specific peculiarities that customers come across during the on-site selection and installation process which may need to be cut out. Generally, we recommend adding 5% to the room’s sqm-total for cutting scrap.

Which kind of Real Wood flooring is right for me?

The range of choices is huge. According to personal taste and character of the room you can choose between different wood types, board sizes, surface finishes (lacquer-finish or oil-impregnation), surface structures (Antique, Distressed, Brushed), impressions (Block or Wideplank) and styles.

Does sunlight have any effects on the flooring?

Yes, any kind of wood will change its colour over time. During this process light-coloured wood types are not necessarily going to get lighter, dark wood types however will get darker. Every wood type has a characteristic aging process of its own and will react in its individual way.

What is the maximum load a Real Wood flooring can bear on a single point?

With very large loads (e.g. pianos, aquariums, storage heaters and the like) we always recommend gluing down as the installation method of choice.

Can Engineered Real Wood flooring that has been installed as a floating floor be sanded and resurfaced?

Yes, but be aware that every sanding process will take off about 1mm of the flooring’s wear-layer. Try not to use very heavy sanding machinery as the big weight of these machines may lead to the creation of “sanding waves”

How do I care for my oil-impregnated Real Wood floors?

Use Wood-Floor Soap for regular maintenance cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner for lacquer-finished floors and damp-wipe only if needed.

Should your Floating Real Wood Flooring be installed under kitchen appliances?

In the kitchen, you should install the flooring under kitchen appliances, but be very careful when you slide the appliances over the floor. We recommend covering the flooring with something such as a spare rug to protect the flooring when you’re moving the appliances.

Are there methods that make it possible for ALL stains to be removed from Real Wood Floors or is it sometimes impossible for some stains to be removed?

Most stains don’t penetrate more than the sanding will remove. However, if you have a severe water stain, you may not be able to remove it.

How much of an irregularity (drop or rise) can there be in an existing sub floor before installing your Real Wood Flooring?

You can have a drop or rise up to 4mm over 2 linear metres.

Do Real Wood Floors increase home value?

Absolutely. Real Woods floors are recognised as one of the highest quality floors available and would increase the value of your home.

I am installing a Radiant Heat Floor System involving poly water tubing set in gypsum concrete that would be my sub-floor. Can your products be used with this type of floor heating system?

This installation is okay as long as the tubes don’t touch the wood. You also would have to use a laminated underlay vapour barrier between the concrete and the floor.

Can your Real Wood Flooring be installed over Linoleum and be used on stairs?

Real Wood flooring can be installed on the stairs, however it can be slippery.

You can install our floating Real Wood flooring over linoleum if the linoleum remains sound and tightly glued to the original sub floor.

Is there a type of Real Wood Flooring (e.g. Maple v’s Oak) that is more durable or longer lasting than another?

There isn’t much difference between Real Wood flooring wood types. The only negative on oak is it’s a rather porous wood, but it is a very hard durable wood, as are maple and beech. White oak is slightly harder than red oak. Your choice will really come down to aesthetics.

My concrete floor has a few low spots in it and I was wondering what to use to solve this problem?

Most building materials suppliers have a concrete levelling product. We suggest levelling any areas that are more than 3/16″ in variation. Make sure you use the underlay with a DPM before installing over concrete.

Do you have to install your Real Wood Flooring under existing cabinets?

Ideally, the Real Wood flooring would go under the cabinets. You can, however, cut around the cabinets if removing the cabinets would cause undue complications. Keep in mind, though, that if you were ever to change the cabinets, you could have a problem if the new cabinets weren’t the same size as the old cabinets.

Is it possible to install a Real Wood as a floating floor over concrete?

Real Wood floor is designed exactly for this kind of application. It requires an underlay with a DPM over the concrete floor. The floating floor system can go directly over that.

If there were a crack in the concrete, would it cause problems with a Floating Floor installation?

We recommend that any cracks in concrete be filled with concrete filler and sealed prior to installation. If it’s just a hairline crack you can simply cover the crack with duct tape. Keep in mind that underlay with a DPM must be installed prior to laying down the floor.

Important note prior to installation:
Relative Humidity should be maintained a 40-55% prior to installation and throughout the life span of the floor.

15mm expansion gap must be maintained around the perimeter of the floor.

by Cornell University Library

Rubber floor tiles are manufactured from a combination of natural and synthetic rubber. As a result this makes rubber floor tiles highly resilient and ideal for areas with high traffic, workplace interiors and public places such as airports, schools, and shopping centres, as well as other health care, hospitality, retail and office environments. But those examples are a thing of the past.

Rubber – the future in flooring solutions These days, rubber flooring is as much at home in a domestic kitchen or bathroom than it is in an office or shopping centre. In the past your options for rubber flooring tiles would have been limited to a handful of colours; whereas these days, if you’re looking to fit rubber flooring in your apartment or home, the variety of rubber flooring tile colours and textures is incredible, so it’s easy to find a floor tile that fits in with your existing décor.

Of course it’s not just about the look, rubber flooring is also highly practical. And because it’s made from such resistant material, it’s ideal for all sorts of uses. Helpfully, the way that rubber floor tiles are laid down also makes it a really good option for reducing noise. This is because rubber flooring seems to absorb sound better than most alternative flooring options; so if you’re thinking about laying flooring in the gym where you might be pounding the ground often, or an apartment hallway where you don’t want to disturb your neighbours, rubber floor tiles will absorb any additional sound – rather than bouncing it around the room like wooden or marble flooring would do.

Unlike carpet, if you spill something on your rubber flooring, a quick mop and wipe will clear away the mess and leave your floor tiles in pristine condition; making it ideal for kitchens, or for playrooms for the kids to romp around on.

While rubber floor tiles aren’t as cushioned as carpet, they are slightly cushioned for safety purposes so that if you do slip on them, you won’t be left with a huge bruise; the rubber floor will absorb some of the impact.

All of these qualities make rubber flooring tiles ideal for practically any room in the home; whether it’s for a kitchen, hallways, flooring for your bathroom, indestructible flooring for the children’s play room, floor tiles for the garage which won’t need a lot of care and are easy to clean, or anywhere where there’s a lot of foot traffic. But – and there’s always a but – rubber floor tiles are only good for interior installation. They’re not good for outdoor building that are pervious to the climate.

We’ve talked about the virtues of rubber floor tiles, but how do you know what to get or where to get them? There are many different qualities of rubber flooring tiles available on the market, so just like any other product you should pick out a reputable supplier to be certain your tiles will last.

The highest quality of materials and workmanship are employed in the making of UK Flooring Online’s Rubber Floor Tiles and careful inspections are made before products are dispatched. Rubber floor tiles have become the popular choice of flooring for a variety of rooms. And as they’re such a versatile, easy to lay, and non-slip flooring option that comes in a variety of colours and patterns, rubber floor tiles are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, playrooms, offices, work areas, basements, or garages; you name it and they’ll fit right in.

          ]]>

These floor tiles are extremely durable, easy to clean, and are long lasting too. They absorb noise and the impact of falling objects, so that your floor is less likely to get damaged. Brilliant. Best of all rubber floor tiles have been made with DIY enthusiasts in mind, so you don’t need a degree in floor laying or a CV including decades of skilled experience to produce well-laid floors. As long as you can follow simple instructions and use some common sense, you’re away!

So what do you need to get started?

Rubber floor tiles Measuring tape Chalk line if you have one, or a pen and string attached will do if you don’t A long metal ruler Stanley knife Glue Roller

First things first… Prepare the room. Clear out the room you’re going be working in. Make sure that the area is dirt, dust, glue, and bits and pieces free. You don’t want anything other than a clean space for your lovely new rubber flooring. There’s nothing worse then getting to the end and realising that there’s a bump in the middle that’s been created from a left over bit of glue.

Next steps Once you’ve cleared out the room take your rubber flooring tiles and place them in the room. It’s best for floor tiles to acclimatise to the room temperature before you lay them down. This way they’re less likely to shrink or expand. We’re now ready to lay down the rubber tiles.

Step 1 – Measurements: Find the centre point of the room. To find the centre point of the room start with the 2 longest walls and measure the length of these walls. Divide each length by 2 and mark a line on the floor at exactly half way. Do this on all sides of the room.

You now should have 4 lines marked, one in the middle of each wall of the room. Using a chalk line, take one end and anchor it to one of your marks, which is at the midpoint of the wall. Stretch the line across the room to the opposite wall and anchor the line at your midpoint mark. Make sure your line is tight and “snap” the line by lifting the line up a little and letting go so it snaps a nice clean chalk line across the room.

Repeat this step on the other wall and when completed you should have your room divided into 4 quadrants. Where the lines intersect will be the centre of your room. Now take your tape measure and measure from the centre point to each corner of the room and each of these measurements should be equal.

Step 2 – Dry lay run: Lay out your tiles without any adhesive to get a visual of how your tiles will look once installed. This also helps to determine if you need to make any adjustments. Pick one quadrant, and starting from the centre point work your way outwards towards the wall.

Once you have laid all of your rubber floor tiles in one quadrant move on to the next. When the whole floor has been dry laid, view your rubber flooring under normal, occupied lighting conditions. Once you are satisfied that the tiles are laid out correctly, you’re ready to start gluing.

Step 3 – Glue preparation: Only Adesilex’s G19 two-part polyurethane adhesive is approved for installing UK Flooring Online’s Rubber Floor Tiles. It’s important to get the mix right, so please read the adhesive label for mixing directions, trowel recommendations, and floor porosity conditions, as after all the hard work you wouldn’t want to get it wrong at this stage. Now the glue’s ready, spread it over the floor and place your rubber flooring tiles down on top.

Lower the tiles gently into the adhesive, sliding the floor tiles will result in forcing the adhesive out between the seams. Position the tile and butt the edges tightly. Work off the tile surface or use a kneeling board. Periodically, lift the corner of an installed tile to ensure proper transfer of the adhesive.

If there’s any wet adhesive at the seams or on the rubber tile surface, clean it off straightaway with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol or water. If you don’t do it then, it’s going to be really difficult once it’s dried, and that could damage your rubber floor tiles.

Step 4 – Roller: Once you’ve laid all of the floor tiles down, using a roller (ideally a 45 Kg. 3-section roller) go over the rubber floor tiles. An hour later, roll over the rubber tiles a second time. Inspect the floor 2-1/2 hours after installation and roll a third time, if necessary. Use a hand roller in areas, which cannot be reached with a large roller. Inspect the floor surface (especially at any seams) and remove any visible adhesive on the surface.

Step 5 – Admire your rubber flooring tiles: Understandably, you’ll probably want to test out your new rubber flooring straightaway, but it’s best to wait for 72 hours before you let people trample over the rubber flooring.

Give it at least 12 hours to settle, and then allow only limited light traffic for the following 48 hours.

How to strip and wax a floor

Over time the build up of wax, or other floor finishes, will give your hard floor surfaces a dull, hazy, or yellowed look. If burnishing or polishing your floor does not correct the problem, then the only solution is to strip off the old floor finish and refinish the floor.

The use of a good quality floor stripper will make your life much easier, it’s better to have the floor stripper remove the wax rather than using elbow grease to do so. Purchase a stripper that can handle the job. For best results, use a floor finish stripper that is the same brand or better as the finish, be proactive not reactive.

Make sure that the floor you are stripping does not and will not have traffic. Use warning signs to defer traffic from the area you are stripping.

You will need to start in the corner that is farthest from an exit and work your way toward the exit.

Removing the old floor finish is done in four steps.

Apply floor stripper and let it sit on the old finish for awhile

A Floor stripper is a chemical solution that helps to dissolve and loosen the old floor wax on your floor. Make sure that your floor has been prepared for stripping. Clean the floor removing as much dirt and debris as possible. After the floor has been prepared vacuum or dust mop the floor to remove any dust. We recommend that you spray your dust mop with a dust mop treatment to remove as much dust as possible. Make sure to remove anything stuck to the floor because this will gum up and rip the floor pad.

Follow the directions for your specific floor stripping solution (some may need diluting), but most will require you to distribute the solution generously over the floor. Stripping a floor requires a mop bucket, cotton or blended mop, gloves, a black towel, floor machine (175-300 rpm’s) and a black floor pad. Fill the mop bucket up 1/2 way with floor stripper. Dip the mop into the stripper and lightly wring.

          ]]>

Break the floor down into 6′ by 6′ sections and start applying the stripper. Apply the stripper in a figure 8 motion overlapping each stroke by about an inch. After you have applied the stripper let it sit on the floor (follow the product directions for time frame) usually for 5-10 minutes. This will give the stripper a chance to react with the floor finish.

Remove the floor stripper from the floor

Place a black floor pad on your floor machine. When stripping a floor move the floor machine back and forth on the floor overlapping by at least 1 inch on each pass. As the floor finish is removed from the floor it will become duller. You may need to spend extra time on areas with finish buildup. The main traffic area on the floor will have less buildup than low traffic areas.

Remove the stripper from the floor using either a blended mop or wet dry vacuum preferably one that has a front mount squeegee.

If you have a very large area to work on then an automatic scrubber floor machine will help your job go a lot faster. The same floor stripping pads you use on a rotary floor buffer can also be used for an automatic scrubber.

An automatic scrubber, either walk-behind or ride-on, can be used to vacuum up the stripping solution and dissolved floor wax in one quick pass, eliminating the slow removal with a wet-dry vac and hand squeegees.

Do not let the stripper finish mixture dry. If the area does dry apply more stripper to loosen the finish.

Rinse the floor and neutralize the floor stripper.

After you have removed the floor stripper from the floor rinse the floor with warm water. Rinse the floor two more times with cold water.

After the third rinse with plain water, rinse the floor with a floor stripper neutralizer. Neutralizer will reduce the white residue left by the floor stripper so that the floor finish can adhere to the floor easier and better.

After the neutralizer dries check for white residue on the floor using a black towel. If residue still exists rinse one more time with cold water. Once all these steps have been completed check the floor for shiny spots. If shiny spots are evident you may need to re-strip these areas.

If you don’t use a neutralizer you run the risk of your new floor wax gradually flaking or peeling off the floor.

Clean your equipment

You will want to thoroughly rinse out all tanks after each usage. If you used the solution tank to apply stripper, you would not want to put any stripper down when going to scrub your next floor, because it could ruin that floor. So, make sure to thoroughly clean out the solution tank after each usage. You also want to make sure you clean out all recovery tanks, vacuum hoses, and squeegees, because if any stripper or old floor wax were to dry in any of those areas, it can clog, or ruin your machine, putting you and your machine out of commission.

Apply the new Finish

Let the floor thoroughly dry before your next step of applying the new floor wax or finish. Floor fans or air movers might be necessary to speed up this process. When completely dry you’re ready to apply your new finish.

Apply a commercial quality wax solution to the floor – If you really want to your floor to shine contact Peoples Supplies www.peoplessupplies.com 877-230-4390 to purchase some excellent floor care products.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is a corporation of 39 community-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. They have an enviable track record of having served millions of families with high class and yet affordable health care insurance. BCBS Brands are renowned and one of the leaders in the health insurance industry. They are the pioneers and largest family of health benefits companies with more than 800 employees. Their healthcare coverage is widespread and available in all the 50 states, the District of Columbia and in Puerto Rico. In view of their large-scale operations, almost all hospitals and nearly 80% of the physicians are contracted by BCBS.

BCBS provides a assortment of healthcare insurance to cater a large corporations, medium and small business houses and even individuals. BCBS has grown rapidly and are today registered in about 175 countries. Based in Chicago, Illinois, BCBS was the result of merger between Blue Cross Association and the National Association of Blue Shield in 1982. Prior to the historic merger, the two companies that were created around the same time in two different parts of the U.S were leaders in healthcare insurance. The evolution and growth of the concept of managed healthcare system in the United States is largely, if not solely, due to Blue Cross-Blue Shield plans.

          ]]>

In 1939, the Chicago-based American Hospital Association (AHA) was the first one to use the Blue Cross as a symbol to signify that health plans across the country met certain prescribed norms. The AHA continued to use of this now renowned symbol until the Blue Cross Association was founded in 1960. Meantime, the

first official Blue Shield plan was founded in California in 1939. It was in 1948 the symbol was informally adopted by the Associated Medical Care Plans, which was later renamed the National Association of Blue Shield Plans.

Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance companies offer insurance plans under either or both the brands. Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurers offer some form of health insurance coverage in practically every state in USA. They are providing group coverage to state government employees, as well as the U.S. Federal government employees under a nationwide program of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan (FEHBP) established by the association on their behalf.

Traditionally the Blue Cross symbol was used for hospital treatment while the Blue Shield for medical coverage. But today the two organizations have become homogeneous and the dichotomy exists in only in eastern Pennsylvania. Otherwise in throughout the country only one insurer operates under both

brands in all places… Both brand names are used by both the associations and its member insurers, though some members prefer one form or the other.

The 14-state WellPoint is the largest Blue Cross-Blue Shield member, and it is a public limited company. Other notable multi-state organizations are CareFirst in the Mid-Atlantic and The Regence Group in the Pacific Northwest.

There is the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation on Health Care which is a non-profit making association. The Foundation is a centralized body that coordinates national multi-site health services research.

The Foundation is rendering affordable service and contributing to the public good by focusing on population-based studies as an effective way to influence health outcomes, health policy and the quality of health services and delivery. Working in tandem with many academic institutions and government agencies, the Foundation facilitates national research that provides solutions to relevant health care issues.

Modern day houses are implementing wooden floors in architectural designs. Wood is perfect for flooring because it is elastic and flexible. It has a smoother effect which is lacking in concrete floors, while its only limitation is its natural characteristics.

Expansion and contraction of wood from moisture and temperature fluctuation puts many dimensional restrictions on solid wood floors. Wood flooring is any product that is manufactured from timber that is either use for structural or aesthetic purposes. Bamboo is often considered as wood flooring when in fact, it is made from grass rather than timber. For contemporary construction techniques, the most significant characteristic of solid wood floors is that they are not recommended to be installed directly over concrete.

Hardwood floor comes in a wide range of dimensions and style, with each plank made of solid wood and milled from a single piece of timber. They are originally used for structural purposes like being installed perpendicular to the wooden support beams of a building.

Modern construction techniques no longer use wood building frames and solid hardwood floors are exclusively use for their appearance.

There are many distributors of hardwood floor in Ottawa that offer large selections of quality hardwood floors from the top brand pre-finished hardwood flooring from Mirage, Bruce, Armstrong, Satin Finish, Riviera, Coswick, Superior Vintage and Torlys. They have earned a great reputation for providing top quality service and products of hardwood floors in Ottawa. Engineered hardwood is the most common type of wood flooring that is used globally. North America is the only continent that has a larger solid wood market than engineered, although engineered hardwood is quickly catching up in the market. Engineered hardwood flooring is composed of two or more layers of wood in the form of a plank.

          ]]>

The top layer (lamella) is the wood that is visible when the flooring is installed, and is adhered to the core (or substrate) which provides the stability. Laminate flooring is often confused with engineered wood floors because the laminate uses an image of wood in its surface, vinyl, which is a plastic made to look like a wood.

Different installers install hardwood flooring in a variety of methods like tongue and groove, “click” systems, floor connection systems and utilizing the glue-down method. There are distributors and importers of top quality hardwood flooring in Ontario where retailers, building contractors, flooring installers, architects, and interior designers have come to depend upon for service and advice not usually available from other suppliers. Distributors and suppliers alike give services like hard wood floor installation, hardwood floor refinishing, and they also acts as hardwood floor depot. Hardwood floor in Canada comes in Bruce hardwood, natural oak hardwood, oak hardwood floors, red oak, and white oak hardwood. There are hundreds of oak hardwood floor to choose from. They are available in hand-scraped, parquet and antique looks. There are also distributors who do hardwood floor install for different hardwood flooring needs. While there are commercial cleaners for hardwood floors, there is some hardwood floor cleaner that is earth-friendly and biodegradable. A half cup of vinegar mixed with a gallon of water can remove oil, dirt and grime. Just make sure that the floor is rinse before polishing. You can also mix half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of vegetable oil in a bucket. This can be use as a wood floor polish that you can buff into the floor with a soft clean cloth.

Flooring is the general term for permanent covering of a floor. The most popular today in hardwood flooring is the oak hardwood flooring.
